Independent Safeguarding & Professional Services

Experienced in Stage 2 and Stage 3 investigations under the Children Act 1989 statutory complaints procedure. I act as Investigating Officer, Independent Person or Review Panel Member.
My investigations are:

  • Fair and analytically robust
  • Grounded in statutory guidance and evidence
  • Balanced in tone and proportionate in their findings
  • Focused on learning and service improvement

I understand the impact complaints have on families and professionals alike. My role is to ensure the process is thorough, respectful and defensible.

Commissioned by Local Authorities and safeguarding partnerships to review how learning from serious incidents, allegations and statutory reviews is translated into practice.
This includes:

  • Post-allegation oversight reviews
  • Thematic audits across services or partnerships
  • Implementation and impact analysis of review recommendations
  • Identifying barriers to change and providing systemic recommendations

My scrutiny is independent but not adversarial. It is designed to strengthen professional confidence, governance and safeguarding culture.

Drawing on experience across allegations involving foster carers, education professionals and the wider children’s workforce a position of trust:

  • Independent post-allegation reviews & reports
  • Mentoring and reflective support for new or developing LADO officers
  • Short-term capacity support during periods of pressure or transition
  • Quality assurance and independent oversight of allegation management

I understand the complexity of managing allegations against professionals and foster carers. My approach focuses on proportionality, evidential clarity and fair process, while containing the impact on all involved.

I design and facilitate Reflective Safeguarding Practice forums with Designated Safeguarding Leaders and Practitioners, Safeguarding Partnerships and Fostering Agencies. Sessions combine:

  • Case-based discussion drawn from real practice
  • Coaching-informed reflection to support professional thinking
  • Threshold analysis and defensible decision-making
  • Professional curiosity and respectful challenge
  • Shared learning and peer connection across agencies

Participants often say they leave with greater confidence, clearer thinking and a stronger sense of peer connection.

As an experienced independent social worker, I undertake analytical reviews and provide independent professional opinion in complex safeguarding situations.
My work includes:

  • Independent case analysis and complex analytical reports
  • Practice reviews where decision-making or thresholds require independent perspective
  • Professional opinion to support local authorities or partnerships in complex cases
  • Independent oversight where clarity, proportionality and defensible reasoning are required

My reports are clear, evidence-based and proportionate, with child-centred analysis and defensible recommendations.
